What is performance studies?
One response is…
Performance studies is a growing field of academic study focusing on the use of performance both as something to be critically examined and as something which can be utilized to approach a better understanding of the human condition, of both society and self.
Another response is…
Events are more than their face value. A sporting event, a ceremony, a protest are all performances in their own right. Events have specific actors, costumes, settings and audiences. Within these performances are more minute performances of self: of gender, of societal role(s), of age, of disposition(s). Examining events as performance provides insight into how we perform ourselves and our lives.

What is an RSS feed?
According to Wikipedia , RSS feeds “provide web content or summaries of web content together with links to the full versions of the content, and other metadata.”
“Aggregators reduce the time and effort needed to regularly check websites of interest for updates, creating a unique information space or “personal newspaper.” An aggregator is able to subscribe to a feed, check for new content at user-determined intervals, and retrieve the content.” -from Wikipedia
If you have a browser that has a built in aggregator, just click on the orange button that appears in the location (URL) bar and add the feed as a “live bookmark.”
You can also find built in aggregation in “portal sites such as My Yahoo! and Google; Web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera; e-mail programs like Mozilla Thunderbird; and other applications” -from Wikipedia
If you do not have any of these, you will need to search for “RSS readers, feed readers, or feed aggregators” and use one that you like.

What are the origins of this site?
I created PerformanceStudies.Org as a personal side project. It is completely independent of any organization. It is by no means intended to replace any other site, merely to serve as a “portal” to other sites…a sort of clearing house, if you will.
The site’s origins stem from my search for and frustration with how difficult it is (was?) to find information on the internet about schools with performance studies programs, information in general pertaining to performance studies and also from my search for people interested in performance studies.
So, while it had purely “selfish” reasons at its root, what the site evolves into is intended to be shaped by its users…if you want something added, or if you have any input at all, just let me know via the contact us link.
